Regista – The Midfield Maestro

Rupert Neve spent his career obsessing over one thing: getting the middle of the spectrum right. His most sophisticated parametric mid design was not the 1073. It was the MF1 and MF2 sections of the Amek Mozart MZ15-RN, a strip from a console that recorded The Downward Spiral and the Buena Vista Social Club, then went into storage when the industry moved to digital. Regista starts there, merges both mid bands into a single continuous system, and pushes the range further than the original console ever went.

It gives you real control over the part of the guitar that decides whether a mix sounds clean, muddy, or alive. Pick the zone you want to shape, define how broad or focused the effect feels, and let the midrange finally sit where it belongs.

With Regista you can add weight, tighten clarity, or bring a line forward with authority. It can be subtle and corrective or bold and expressive depending on how you set it. Low zones add body. The central zone opens the voice of the guitar. Higher zones sharpen presence without harshness. Everything feels natural because the ranges follow how the ear hears.

Regista behaves like a studio console section you can use in real time, without a session and without a mix engineer. Once you hear how your rig responds with proper mid control, it becomes hard to play without it.

  • Drive: Boosts or cuts the selected mids up to Β±18 dB.
  • Shape: Sets the bandwidth from wide and natural to surgically narrow.
  • Zone: Sweeps the mid frequency across the full musical range of the guitar.
  • Level: Post-EQ recovery gain. Carve as deep as you want and come back with full presence.

Regista, The Midfield Maestro, is hand-built in Switzerland. Original circuit. Studio grade. Fully analog.

FAQ

What is it?

A fully parametric midrange shaper inspired by the MF sections of the Amek Mozart MZ15-RN, merged into a single continuous system with extended range and control.

What does it actually do?

It shapes the midrange of your signal. You select a frequency, set how wide or narrow the band is, and apply boost or cut.

Is it complicated to use?

No. Pick a Zone, set the Shape, then adjust Drive. Three steps, always the same order.

Where does it go on my board?

At the end, it behaves like a console section shaping your full signal before the amp.

At the front, it defines how your entire chain reacts and saturates.

What is the difference between Zone and Shape?

Zone selects the center frequency.

Shape controls the bandwidth around it.

Wide is smooth and natural. Narrow is focused and precise.

Does Level do anything?

Yes. Level is a post-EQ output gain, independent of Drive.

It lets you recover level after cuts or push the signal further.

What is the difference between Drive and Level?

Drive applies boost or cut at the selected frequency.

Level adjusts the overall output after the EQ.

Drive shapes the tone. Level sets how hard the signal leaves the pedal.

Does Regista color my sound?

Only if you want it to. That is where the magic is. Transparent corrections or strong character, you are in full control.

Why only one band?

Because the midrange is where guitar tone is decided.

One fully parametric band with full control is more effective than multiple limited bands.

What does fully parametric mean?

Frequency, bandwidth (Q), and gain are all continuously variable and independent.

100 Hz to 10 kHz is not just the midrange, is it?

Not in the way most people think. For a bass player, 100 Hz is already well into clarity. For a guitarist, it is where the body of the instrument lives.

Regista covers the entire range that defines how a guitar sits in a mix: weight, voice, presence, and harmonic detail.

Call it midrange, call it the musical range, it is the part that actually decides how your instrument sounds. And all of it matters.

Does it work with bass or keyboards?

Yes. The sweep covers the full musically relevant midrange for both.

True bypass?

Yes, true bypass.

Power supply?

Standard 9V–18V DC, center-negative, 2.1 mm barrel.

Current draw: under 60 mA.

Does it need 18V?

No. 9V works perfectly and adds a bit more character.

18V increases headroom and keeps the signal cleaner longer.
