The Touring Board Returns to Biel/Bienne
After an electrifying start with M.O.T.H.E.R., the RhPf Touring Board continues its journey and returns to Biel/Bienne for Week 2. This time the board enters a completely different creative landscape. Instead of raw chaos and explosive trio energy, we now move into a world shaped by precision, storytelling and emotional depth.
This week belongs to Patrick Tschäppät, a musician who moves effortlessly between the stage and the studio. He brings a unique voice that combines compositional discipline with the instinct and spontaneity of a live guitarist. As a result, his approach stands apart from anything we saw in Week 1 and adds a new dimension to the Touring Board story.
Meet Patrick Tschäppät
Pat grew up in the canton of Bern and built his path through dedication, study and curiosity. He first immersed himself in film music, classical composition and electronic composition at the Sound Arts department of the University of the Arts Bern. He later continued his training at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in Potsdam, sharpening his sense for narrative, atmosphere and musical intention.
Since completing his studies in 2019, he has composed scores for short films and audiovisual projects that travelled to festivals across Switzerland, Europe and North America. Through this work he developed an instinct for subtlety, pacing and emotional framing, all qualities that influence the way he plays guitar.
At the same time, he always kept one foot solidly planted in the world of live performance. His influences range from Brian May to Ritchie Blackmore to David Gilmour, and they shape the way he phrases lines, bends notes and builds dynamic contrasts. He switches between Stratocasters, Telecasters and Les Pauls, and he relies on Orange, Marshall or JMI amps depending on the band. Everything he plays feels purpose-built, expressive and transparent.
Between Two Worlds: Brainholz and Bad Ass Romance
As we follow Pat through his work, we quickly realise that he divides his musical life between two distinct yet complementary worlds.
Brainholz
This is the band he grew up with. It is also the band that carries his heart. Brainholz combine Rock’n’Roll, Glam, Hard Rock, Alternative, Punk and Grunge into one powerful voice. Their album “Disappear In Time” moves between long, atmospheric journeys and sharp, fast hits. Throughout the record Pat appears not only as guitarist but also as co-writer on tracks like “Lost in Between” and “Damn Blue Night”.
Because of this, Brainholz present a more personal side of his playing. He leans into emotion, texture and phrasing. The band write as a unit, and Pat’s guitar work supports, pushes and colours that shared language.
Bad Ass Romance
Meanwhile, he steps into a different energy with Fernando von Arb’s project Bad Ass Romance. Here everything moves faster, louder and harder. The shows burn with heat, sweat and tight rock aggression. Instead of reflective melodies, the set demands power, precision and stage presence.
By moving between the two groups, Pat shows range and adaptability. He can drive a retro rock epic, or he can lock into a riff with absolute force. These two projects reveal how he treats music as both craft and expression.
What Sets Pat Apart
As we watch Pat work with the Touring Board, one thing becomes obvious very quickly. He listens before he reacts, he plays with control, not hesitation, he shapes space instead of filling it. Because of his background in composition, every decision feels intentional, yet nothing sounds rigid or overthought.
He balances instinct and structure with ease. He uses clarity, dynamics and tone to tell a story. Whether he plays in a club, records with Brainholz or composes for a film, he follows the same principle. Serve the moment, serve the music, serve the feeling.
Why Week 2 Belongs to Him
The Touring Board aims to highlight artists who reflect the depth, diversity and honesty of the Swiss music scene. After setting the tone with M.O.T.H.E.R., we wanted to move toward a musician who bridges worlds. Pat does exactly that. He performs on big stages, he records albums with long-time friends, and he writes music for films shown far beyond Switzerland.
Because of this, Week 2 gives the project new contrast and new colour. Pat brings a reflective but powerful presence that expands the character of the Touring Board. He shows how gear travels not only through different bands, but also through different creative processes. And he demonstrates how a thoughtful player can make a board feel alive in ways that are completely his own.
