The Moment Our Intentions Spoke Back
Every now and then something happens that reminds us why we pour so much energy into designing and refining our pedals. This week, Pedalboard.org published a full review of the Mosferatwo, written by Holle Humbuck, and it immediately felt different. Instead of offering a quick overview, he described the pedal in a way that mirrored our original intentions almost word for word. As we read through his analysis, it was as if he had been sitting next to us during the earliest design stages, listening to the conversations that shaped the circuit. Because the review arrived without warning, the moment felt even stronger. Seeing the Mosferatwo so precisely understood on one of the most trusted German gear platforms was both surprising and deeply rewarding.
First Impressions Matter
Right from the beginning, Holle focused on the unboxing experience. He described the packaging as “bewusst gestaltet” and “hochwertig,” which reflects exactly what we aim for. As he pointed out, the linen pouch, the manual and the small extras are not just accessories. Instead, they set the tone for what follows. According to Holle, this first contact feels “bodenständig, detailverliebt und auf Gitarristen zugeschnitten, die ehrliche Werkzeuge bevorzugen.” Because this aligns perfectly with our philosophy, his words meant a lot to us.
A Deep Dive Into the Circuit
As the review progresses, the technical depth becomes even more striking. Holle explained the multi-stage MOSFET structure with clarity and accuracy. For example, he broke down the Drive control into its three interconnected gain stages and highlighted how each one shifts from boost to overdrive to distortion. He also described the soft clipping in the first stage, the harder MOSFET clipping in the second and the asymmetrical soft clipping in the third. Furthermore, he discussed how the transistor orientation shapes the character of the harmonic content.
He then turned to Focus, Heart and Bite. Here again, his understanding was impressive. He noted how Focus changes both the frequency curve and the playing feel. Meanwhile, Heart and Bite add their own sculpting options, and he even mentioned the exact mid frequencies behind each switch position. Step by step, he revealed the architecture in a way that felt both musical and precise.
Sound Described With Real Nuance
Once he moved on to the sound section, the review became even more rewarding to read. Holle described the Mosferatwo as a modern boutique voice with a clear vintage foundation. He wrote that the clean boost range feels “groß, offen und reich an harmonischen Obertönen.” As the gain increases, the pedal reaches “fast fuzzartige, dicke Texturen,” yet it always remains defined. He also focused on dynamics and said the Mosferatwo “atmet mit den Nuancen” des Anschlags. Since touch sensitivity is one of the core ideas behind this circuit, reading that felt incredibly validating.
Additionally, Holle highlighted the low noise floor. Even with higher gain settings, he found the pedal surprisingly quiet. Because we spent a lot of time refining noise behaviour across the stages, this part made us especially proud.
Balanced Praise and Honest Critique
Toward the end, Holle summarised his thoughts with a mix of praise and practical advice. He called the Mosferatwo “einen echten Schatz,” which still makes us smile. At the same time, he pointed out that the interactivity of the controls may require some time to explore. This is true, and we appreciate the honesty. The Mosferatwo is built for players who enjoy shaping their sound, and discovering the right combination of Drive, Focus, Heart and Bite often leads to the most rewarding tones.
