Mo(s)Ghoul was built around the scale of 1990s alternative guitar sounds. Think crushing, scooped rhythm walls, then turn the Mid control toward something denser and more direct. The result moves from Smashing Pumpkins weight toward the focused, mid-forward authority associated with Weezer. That range matters because the 90s guitar sound was never one fixed recipe. The three-band EQ gives Mo(s)Ghoul much of its range, especially through the Mid control. Turn the mids back, and the sound opens into a broader, more aggressive rhythm voice. The low end stays controlled, while the upper frequencies provide the attack needed for large, layered guitars. That movement is the core of the 90s wall-of-sound concept. One side brings the wide, scooped force associated with Smashing Pumpkins. The other brings the thick, mid-forward push found across Weezer’s heavier guitar sounds. That response also separates Mo(s)Ghoul from distortions with one fixed voice. Loopy Demos compared it with the BOSS DS-1, a classic reference for straightforward distortion. The DS-1 offers its familiar punch through a simple control set. Mo(s)Ghoul takes a different route through MOSFET gain stages and a full three-band EQ. Players can shape how the distortion sits within a specific mix, rather than accepting one permanent tonal profile.

A Wall of Sound That Still Breathes

Across all three articles, one quality keeps returning. Mo(s)Ghoul stays reactive despite the amount of saturation available.

Light picking produces clearer and more open tones. A harder attack adds compression, density, and sustain without requiring another switch. Guitar volume changes also remain useful, even when the Drive control is set high. That behaviour gives the pedal a physical connection with the player. The distortion can feel large and immersive, yet the hands still decide how far it moves. For rhythm parts, that means weight without losing attack. For leads, it means long sustain with enough focus to remain present. When stacked with other drives, Mo(s)Ghoul can also add another layer without losing its basic shape.
