
The Architecture of Motion
Mosphoros was designed around movement. Instead of a single gain block followed by a tone circuit, it uses several interacting MOSFET stages that build texture, depth, and harmonic weight as you play. Each section responds to the previous one, so the sound never just increases in volume; it grows in character.
The first gain stage sets the touch and transparency. It feels fast and open, giving the guitar a sense of immediacy. The following stages gradually add elasticity and harmonic density as the drive is turned up. The transition from clean to saturated is smooth and continuous, with no hard boundary
The Feedback-Loop EQ
Where most pedals place Bass and Treble after the gain stages as passive filters, Mosphoros puts them inside the feedback path of the main gain section. In other designs, this control would simply be called “Gain.” Here, it becomes something entirely different.
The two knobs shape both tone and the way the circuit pushes against its own limits.
- Bass increases gain below 1kHz while deepening the curve of soft clipping. Turning it up thickens the response, making the overdrive rounder and more vocal.
- Treble opens the upper range and speeds the circuit’s response, adding brightness and edge while adding gain above 250Hz.
Together they change not only the EQ but also how hard the gain engine drives the next stage. Raising either one increases the internal level, sending more signal into the MOSFET network and driving the CMOS core closer to its rails. Because this amplifier has a naturally slow slew rate, it bends rather than breaks, producing that signature bloom and smooth attack that define Mosphoros.
These controls make the EQ feel alive. Turning them is like shaping the pressure of the tone rather than its color.
From Soft Curves to Saturated Walls
At low drive, the waveform stays open and detailed. There is barely any clipping, only a hint of compression that adds weight and roundness.
As the gain rises, the first MOSFETs begin to bend the peaks, creating soft symmetrical clipping that feels organic and elastic. It is the zone where Mosphoros sounds most amp-like: touch-sensitive, harmonically rich, and responsive to picking.
Push further and the upper stages start to limit more aggressively. The waveform takes on a square-like shape, but never turns harsh. Each stage engages gradually, creating a build-up of tone rather than a single point of distortion.
At maximum settings, the entire structure is alive. The signal moves between compression and release, with tiny asymmetries that make the sound breathe. This is what gives Mosphoros its sense of motion even at full saturation.
Quiet Power
Even with all stages active, Mosphoros remains remarkably silent. Its internal headroom keeps the noise floor low, allowing the harmonic content to stand out clearly. The clipping feels full and complex, yet transparent. Notes stack without losing their shape, chords stay readable, and dynamics remain intact.
This quiet power gives Mosphoros a unique range: from a subtle enhancer that lifts the mix to a saturated drive that still lets the guitar’s character shine through.
