Deathcore, Djent – Meet AOTB

Formed in the shadows of Delémont back in 2016, AOTB is a Swiss metal act operating on the razor’s edge between djent and deathcore—blending brutal groove with technical precision, all wrapped in a storm of unapologetic intensity.

This isn’t just about being heavy. AOTB carves their sound with surgical focus, fusing aggressive breakdowns with melodic intricacy and an almost militaristic rhythmic force. Their five members—Jonas Babey (vocals), Lionel Gerber (guitar), Pablo Lagares (guitar), Nil Flückiger (bass), and Thomas Lachat (drums)—bring a chemistry forged over years of songwriting, lineup shifts, and relentless stage experience. From their earliest performances to their EP Mass Brainwashing and now their latest album No Return, AOTB has stayed true to their mission: crafting music that’s as thought-provoking as it is earth-shattering.

No Return – A Sonic Blitzkrieg

The title track of their latest album, No Return, kicks down the door without warning. There’s no warm-up here—just immediate impact. It begins in chaos and somehow keeps building from there.

What makes it special?

  • Instant Breakdown Barrage – The song launches with ferocious, syncopated breakdowns that feel like sonic detonations. There’s a calculated violence to it—tight, deliberate, devastating.
  • Guitar Screams & Harmonic Shrapnel – Within seconds, you’re hit with pitch-shifted harmonics that slice through the mix like steel on steel. The guitars don’t just riff—they shriek, they weave, they charm like serpents in a pit of chaos.
  • A Vocal Assault – Jonas’s vocals feel less like singing and more like summoning a storm. Every scream is drenched in intensity, haunting and visceral, hitting that rare mix of clarity and savagery.
  • Double Kick Artillery – Thomas’s drumming is the backbone of the track—a mechanical stampede of double bass that marches forward like an army on a warpath. The kicks lock in with Nil’s bass to pound the earth with seismic precision.
  • Accelerating Momentum – Just when you think it can’t get any heavier, the tempo shifts. The band picks up speed like a machine spiraling into overdrive. It’s unrelenting, built to shake you out of your comfort zone.
  • A Surprise Final Act – As the song nears its end, the chaos reshapes itself—still heavy, still aggressive, but suddenly laced with a rhythmic swagger that feels almost… groovy. The band leans into a syncopated, bouncing pulse that feels like a protest march turning into a battle dance. It’s unexpected, confident, and completely irresistible.

This track didn’t just impress us—it flattened us. It’s a masterclass in control and chaos, and we can’t wait to hear what it does to a crowd live.
